Remembering MOTÖRHEAD - Bomber

Motörhead – Bomber (Bronze Records, CMC International, Sanctuary Records, 1979)

With the recent passing of Ian Lemmy Kilmister (1945-2015) I’ve decided to revisit the entire Motörhead discography. As an homage but also as a way to mourn this immortal legend of rock and roll.

Lining three Motörhead classics; Dead Men Tell No Tales, Stone Dead Forever, and Bomber, the album Bomber always suffered from being released seven months after the huge success of Overkill. But it is also a more bluesy record that clashes with the speed and intensity its predecessor. Songs Sweet Revenge and Step Down have this particular blues sound that accompanies early rock and roll of the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix.

Lemmy was for a time a roadie of Hendrix. So it was no surprise that Motörhead would be taking that path instead of going at speed like they did on Overkill. It was a way to reinvent themselves already at their third album.
