LEVIATHAN – Scar Sighted

Leviathan – Scar Sighted (2015, Profound Lore)

From criminal to rehabilitated metalhead, Jeff Whitehead or Wrest is coming back with another album on the excellent label Profound Lore.

The only member of Leviathan, Whitehead one of the most successful American black metaler since the early 2000’s, has passed through a series of criminal incidents and then seemed to have found a better life. Many have let their interest away from him since they learned about what he did even if he was cleared of almost all the accusations. Honestly, I don’t care if an artist has done something or not in his/her personal life. Same thing with Varg Vikernes, who is by the way one of the most repellent human beings to have ever soiled Earth. However, I still think that Hvis Lysett Tar Oss is a masterpiece of contemporary music. Way far ahead of its time and almost timeless in its span and scape. But I digress.

Leviathan’s Scar Sighted is, in fact, my first encounter with this artist. Being at first immersed into this chaos of sounds, textures, vocals, and agressivity I couldn’t really could get a grasp on the label I could put on the album. This is contemporary extreme metal with twists of progressive tastes. Which is not bad but a little chaotic for the new listener.
